Sebastian, Florida (June 6, 2024) –Sebastian River Medical Center, a Steward Family Hospital, is pleased to announce that Thomas Haffey, D.O., F.A.C.C., F.A.C.O.I., F.N.L.A., F.A.H.A., has joined its staff of physicians, enhancing the access to cardiac care for patients along the Treasure Coast.
“Dr. Haffey is a wonderful addition to our medical staff,” said Ron Bierman, President of Sebastian River Medical Center. “He brings proven skills and extensive knowledge in cardiovascular medicine as well as a strong commitment to quality and compassionate care.”
Dr. Haffey earned his medical degree from Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed his internship in cardiac medicine at Pontiac Osteopathic Hospital (currently known as McLaren Oakland Hospital). He went on to earn his Fellowship and become the Chief Fellow from Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Michigan. After the completing his education, Dr. Haffey moved to Denver, Colorado, where he practiced cardiology for 40 years before moving to Florida.
“I chose the field of cardiology for a few reasons, but the earliest memory was when my mother was ill,” says Dr. Haffey. A team of physicians rounded on her in the hospital and the cardiologist had a triple headed stethoscope and he remembered thinking, ‘If I ever became a physician, I wanted to be a cardiologist, because he had a triple headed stethoscope.’ In my young mind, the cardiologist appeared to have more knowledge [of my mom’s health issue] than the physicians with single or double headed stethoscopes.”
Dr. Haffey practices with a triple headed stethoscope and has made every effort to emulate the cardiologist that made such an impact in his childhood. He has strived to become an expert in the field of cardiovascular medicine. He holds three board certifications: American Osteopathic Board of Internal Medicine, National Lipid Association-American Board of Clinical Lipidology and American Osteopathic Board of Cardiovascular Disease. In addition, Dr. Haffey has held academic appointments and numerous administrative positions such as Chief of Staff, Vice Chief of Staff, President of the Southwest Lipid Association, and Governor of American College of Cardiology.
Dr. Haffey’s areas of special interest include clinical lipidology, echocardiograms including TEE and TTE, loop recorder insertions, pacemaker and defibrillator checks. He is accepting new patients at Steward Cardiology Associates, 7754 Bay Street Suites 6 & 7, Sebastian, FL 32958. Please call 772-589-3000 or visit providers.steward.org to schedule an appointment.
